Summertime

Happy Memorial Day weekend everybody! That's right, it's the official start to summer. I feel like it was just New Year's Eve? This year is flying by. As much as I am not a fan of summer (I just don't enjoy being sweaty and having frizzy hair), Memorial Day weekend still gives me that same feeling I had as a kid...the pool will be open soon, lots of BBQ's and late nights sitting on the front porch with friends. The only bummer is that at least when summer came school ended, but there is no end in sight for work.
There is however half day Fridays starting today which is pretty sweet. In order to get home nice and early today I decided to drive in. I wish I could drive in everyday, it's so nice to just sit back and listen to the radio. In fact, while driving I heard the ultimate summer kick-off song, Summertime. Although cheesy as hell it totally brought me back to when Kelly, Gina, Diana and I were teenagers and we used to get so excited over summer. Summer was when we would drive around Brooklyn and good ol' Staten Island, hang out in the school yard down the block or in Kelly's back yard or front porch all night. During the night people would always come by looking for us and would hang out for hours. Every night was like a party. We have so many awesome memories from those days. Don't you wish you were young again?

Great Adventures

BEA is finally over! All that planning and it seems to come and go so fast- almost like Christmas, except I like Christmas. So I left Wednesday and finally came home Sunday. I was sick the entire time and I still feel like shit. Sinuses- what a joy! But we all had an ok time down there. There were some nice dinners with the DK folks. We even had a dinner and some drinks with some DK peeps from the past. It was fun reminiscing and playing some DK trivia. I wish I could have hung around later that night and had some more drinks, but I just needed to get some rest- yes, what I just said is true, I chose sleep over drinking. Crazy right?
Yesterday was a planned day off. We had planned on going to Great Adventure for Frankie's birthday for a long time and I wasn't going to let him down. I think we all had a good time, and I know my niece and nephew had a good time. Robert had his first real interaction with characters- Tweety and Sylvester. He didn't want to leave them and I don't think they wanted to leave him either. He was having so much fun dancing and playing with them. Then I noticed a group of Japanese kids that at first seemed like they wanted to take a picture with the characters- after a few minutes I noticed the only character they were interested in was my nephew. None of them spoke English but they were getting a kick out of him. Snapping pictures of him laughing and dancing and then they started taking pictures with him! It was hysterical!!! He is such a little ham.
After we finally were able to pry him away from them, we were soon on our way home, which was nice since I was starting to crash. I woke up this morning feeling worse, which I didn't think was possible so I decided to stay home and just relax. I've been taking all kinds of cold and sinus stuff and it doesn't seem to be getting any better. I'm praying it goes away soon. After BEA is when I usually get my life back and this is not helping.

Roadtrip

It's finally here. The most dreaded time of the year for me...BEA. For those of you who don't know what BEA is, it's Book Expo America the main event in publishing. After four months of planning it's coming to an end. I'm heading down to DC today to be there first thing in the morning Thursday for set-up. At least my sister-in-law is driving down with me today and I don't have to make the journey by myself. I just hope everything is there. Wish me luck! See some of you tomorrow!

All You Need is $5 and a Shattered Dream

Wanna hear a story about having absolutely no luck? Take Joanne. Joanne is one of my mom's closest friends for years now. She's married with 2 kids and has always had money trouble for as long as I can remember. Joanne likes to play the lottery every week- scratch offs mostly, hoping to someday hit big. For Mother's Day Joanne bought her mom and sister each a $5 Mother's Day scratch off. Her mom hit nothing, her sister on the other hand- $250,000. While I'm sure she was happy for her sister, that just sucks. You play every week and never hit more than say $100. You give someone a $5 gift and they make about 5 years salary off it. Now I'm wondering to see if maybe her sister will give her a little piece of it (I know I would). I can tell you one thing though, I won't be giving people scratch offs as gifts anymore. I don't think I could handle that.

Whacked

Why do I get excited to watch The Sopranos every Sunday night when the show sucks? I mean it's just awful. And I'm not the only one who does this. Everybody I know that watches it gets all pumped up on Sunday for it to come on, and then we all say the same thing come Monday morning...that it sucked!!! Yes, I am totally overusing the word sucked, but it's needed. I think there's three episodes left in the first half of the season and then it comes back in January to finish. I know it seems like alot of time but there's so many questions that need to be answered. What's up with Adriana (I don't think she's dead)? Are we ever going to settle things with the Russian mafia? Will we ever revisit Tony's dreams from when he was in the coma and find out what it was all about? What's gonna happen with Uncle Junior? There's plenty more that they need to answer as well. I hope the writers wake up and stop making it the Johnnycakes hour. I think many people will be in agreement with me when I say that I do not watch The Sopranos for a gay love story, that's why I watch Will and Grace. C'mon Tony, have somebody whacked already.

Are You Curious?

When a found a sample of Britney Spears' perfume Curious in my drawer, I have to admit I was curious. I got the sample months ago at Macy's and ignored it. So this morning I took it out, sprayed a little in the air, and I can't believe I'm admitting this, but I really liked it. Now alot of you know I have been a closet Britney fan for a long time...sad I know, but I do like some of her songs. Don't get me wrong, I don't think she has any talent whatsoever, but I find her entertaining I guess you could say. So now I'm sitting here at my desk being all self conscious about it. So, for those of you out there wearing your Glow by Jo Lo (don't worry I won't rat you out) and thinking that's bad, I have to admit I find this much sadder.

Margaritas and The Dirty Bird

What a great weekend. Friday night Frankie and I decided to get together with the people in our house and have a spur of the moment Cinco de Mayo party! It was such a good time. Frankie was hurting severely the next day.
Saturday morning I did a big cleaning and threw out lots of crap. Then we had a surprise visit from my cousin in Jersey and her three kids, including her newborn Ian- soooo cute! Then Saturday night it was off the Level 1 for Silivia's birthday. It was just a small group of us, but we had so much fun! It was just like old times, we even hit the diner for cheese fries at 3am. Silvia was so drunk (and rightfully so since it was her birthday). She kept dancing around the club doing the dirty bird. It cracked us up. See below for an action shot.
Today is gorgeous out we decided to have BBQ with the family. My favorite cousin is in from Chicago so we'll get to spend time with him which we always enjoy.
